Bartoletti, S.C. (2005). Hitler youth: growing up in hitler's shadow. New York: Scholastic Nonfiction.
The young are impressionable, and the young are the future. Hitler Youth recruited the young to control the future. Throughout the book, beginning in the time of Germany's depression and ending with the conclusion of World War II, true stories are told of German youth either supporting or fighting against the Nazi regime. The detailed accounts of these children growing and partaking in war and death is a difficult topic to process. It is documented history that allows readers to experience the past and use it to form the future. Photographs, captions and maps bring the history to life. Detailed accounts of twelve individuals discussed in the book are also included in the front and back of the book as well as a timeline of Hitler Youth.
