Singer, M. (2010). Mirror mirror. New York, NY: Penguin Group.
Singer wrote an intriguing collection of poems to create the book. The poems are summaries of classic fairy tales, and they are written to mirror each other. Each fairy tale has two poems and an illustration page. One of the two poems is written in the fairy tale character’s perspective, and then the second poem written next to it is in reverse giving the opposing character’s perspective. The unique style is also represented in the illustration, which is divided in half. One half of the page shows one character’s point of view and is brightly colored. The other half shows the opposing character’s point of view and is colored darkly. This supports the text by reinforcing good vs. evil and/or positive vs. negative.
