Lyga, B. (2012). I hunt
killers. New York: Little, Brown.
Jasper (Jazz) Dent is a
teenager looking for answers. He is just like every other teenager, except Billy
Dent, a notorious serial killer, raised Jazz. Even though Billy had been caught
and locked up by the local sheriff G. William, his voice remains alive and
present in Jazz’s mind. Everyone around him seems to be waiting to see if he
will turn out like his dad. In addition to possessing his father’s charm, wit
and good looks, Jazz has extensive insight into the thought process of killers.
This combination makes him intriguing as well as intimidating in his small town
of Lobo’s Nod. His best friend Howie and girlfriend Connie are the only two
people he allows into his world, and often get caught up in his quest for truth.
Murders begin again in Lobo’s Nod, and Jazz feels a desire to catch the killer in
order to prove he is not his father. The murders share so many characteristics
of his father’s previous victims. The Impressionist is having a great time
playing this game with Jazz and G. William. With Jazz’s unwanted persistence
and involvement, the Impressionist, Jeff Fulton, is discovered. But no one
counted on the escape of Billy Dent. This dark modern murder mystery shows true
turmoil people face when determining who they are and who they will become. To
find out what happens to Jasper Dent read the sequels Game and Blood of My Blood.
