It's A Book

Smith, L. (2010). It’s a book. New York, NY: Roaring Book Press.

Mouse, Jackass and Monkey portray the development of literature in today’s world. Monkey enjoys reading books, and Jackass has no clue about bound books, or any reading done without an electronic device. As Jackass begins to read Monkey’s book, the story draws him in. He then wants to continue reading, so Monkey heads for the library. The illustration’s large amateur shapes and color blocking convey the straightforwardness of the topic, while the softened edges of the shapes gave texture and depth. The simplicity of the text and illustrations work together to reinforce the message; it’s a book.
