Balloons Over Broadway

Sweet, M. (2011). Balloons over broadway. New York, NY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

The biographical story of Tony Sarg is as fun and playful as he is. Through the book we learn about his interest in art and toys, especially puppets as a young child. As he got older, he developed his skills in creating marionettes and became a sensation. Macy's department store hired Tony to help with their parade. After trial, error and some time past Tony's balloon puppets were created, and are now an American Thanksgiving tradition. The front and back of the book give additional information from various sources about Tony Sarge's life and personality. Bibliography, quote sources and acknowledgments are also included. This is helpful in teaching children about reputable sources as well as citing their own research.
