Youtube is used for endless reasons. In the field of
education, it is used to teach, advocate and motivate students. It is a great
tool for a library to use in order to get students involved in books, using
technology and excited about sharing both to promote their creations. I plan on
utilizing my library Youtube channel to post book trailers, give instructions
for skills I have taught in lessons and share student creations.
Here are some library and
educational Youtube Channels that offer great tools and ideas:
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheNHSLibrary/videos This library has a video titled Tigerpalooza 2015 Dark Lord Funk. Students will love watching this
video. My 4th grader has been obsessed with Dark Lord Funk for months now. It combines his favorite book series
with his favorite song! There is also a video called CQ Researcher that shows a screencast for students to get
instructions on this educational tool at any time.
https://www.youtube.com/user/theunquietlibrary/videos This library has a video titled Scenes from The Unquiet Library August 2012. It is a collection of photos from all they great things
happening in the library, and students will enjoy a video like this if made
about their library experience. Another video titled Finding CC Licensed Images in Advanced Flickr Search gives access
to a tutorial about finding what they need without copyright problems.
https://www.youtube.com/user/pikesvillehslibrary/videos This library has a multitude of videos. The video
titled Senior Party in the Library
will show that the library can be fun as well as educational. PHS Financial Aid Workshop is a video of
how students can acquire financial support in their future college careers.
https://www.youtube.com/user/bbmsmedia/videos This channel has great videos incorporating books
with pop culture. The video Taylor Swift
Hates Overdue Library Books is highly entertaining, yet makes a point with
the students. Having book reviews and trailers like Hugo Cabret Review is helpful for students looking for their next
read.
Here is a video that encourages on-time book returns with a song that is popular right now:
Animoto is a great tool for creating book trailers. It is
very simple to use and videos can be made very quickly. Once videos are
created, they can be shared through hyperlinks, Twitter, Facebook or uploaded
to Youtube. They can even be embedded!
Here is a book trailer I
created for Piggie Pie by Margie
Palatini. I love this book because it is fun and a great work of metafiction
taking well-known childhood characters and putting a hilarious twist on them.
Publisher
synopsis- Gritch the
witch flies to Old MacDonald's farm for some pigs to make piggie pie.

QR Codes are being increasingly utilized in libraries. There are a
variety ways they can and are being used. They can be used as an interesting
way to get students to reflect on their learning, a way to access the library’s
website, Facebook page and/or blog, to give author information for books on
display, access book trailers, create scavenger hunts……The options are endless.
I will be using them to do all of those things, and I can’t wait to explore and
learn other things I can do with them as well.

This was a nice book trailer. I think if you use a free trial of Animoto Pro, it'll take the watermark out of your video.
